Mission Minutes
MISSION JOYS
·
We collected
146 cans for our Food Pantry families
and $100 for the Cathedral Soup Kitchen in Camden on Souperbowl Sunday.
·
We prepared 50
treat bags of Valentine candy for the children of Caring Hearts.
·
Your generosity
has also helped to keep our Food Pantry stocked.
Projects
We will have 2 projects this month:
1.
We will be collecting Easter candy for the children
at Caring Hearts. We will need the
candy (marshmallow chicks, jellybeans, and foil-covered chocolates) by March 9th. We will be filling 50 treat bags. Mary Lamey and Ellen Dost will be in charge
of crafts at their Easter party on March 14th at the Kaighn Ave.
Baptist Church in Camden. It’s a lot of
fun, and the children and parents are very appreciative of our efforts.
2.
We will be collecting donations for One Great Hour
of Sharing on Palm Sunday, March 16th.
Our
contributions to O.G.H.O.S. really make
a difference in the lives of people.
As
many as 600 programs are supported
by
our gifts. Our donations are divided
into
three main categories:
1.
hunger programs
2.
self-development of people
3.
disaster assistance
Once
again this year, the emphasis will
be
to help provide more clean water in
poor
countries. Sometimes disasters such
as
floods or hurricanes contaminate the
water
and then the fish, plants, animals
and
people die. Many people die from
diarrhea
in poor countries because of
drinking
unsafe water.
Presbyterian
Disaster Assistance builds
wells
in towns, and water purification
systems
for about $1000. What a
difference
it makes!
Checks
should be designated to:
Logan Mem. Presb. Church – OGHOS
We hope you can help!
Upcoming
Mission Projects
In April we will be
helping to improve healthcare in three ways:
1. We will be collecting twin flat
sheets for hospitals in Africa.
2. We will be making Healthcare kits for
people evacuated in disasters.
(Directions in Mission area and on large table in Family Life
Center). There are 3 changes to the
kits this year.
-
no toothpaste is required
-
we need nail
clippers, not nail files this year.
I found nail clippers 2/$1.00 at the Dollar Tree store in Westmont
Plaza.
-
the shipping
required in each kit is $2.00
3.
We hope to send a medical kit to
medical missionaries as a result of
donations at our Lenten Soup
Suppers. These basic medicines
cost
about $165, plus the cost of shipping.
As always we are
very appreciative of all that you do with our projects. Remember that no one can do everything, but
everyone can do something.
If
you get a chance, you may enjoy reading Bill Clinton’s book “Giving” – about
how people reach out to help others.
